This summer the Surf World International Surf Film Festival returns to Torquay for another season of award winning surf films and documentaries from Australia and around the world.
The festival is the largest surf film festival in Australia and will run from Thursday 2 January until Monday 6 January.
Opening night on Thursday 2 January will feature the Surf Coast Premiere of the award winning surf documentary Serendipity.
Directed by Simon Lamb, Serendipity tells the story of Anthony Hussein Hinde who as a 20 year old surfer went on a surfing adventure that resulted in the discovery of the then unknown surf breaks at the Maldives.
For fifteen years Tony had access to an amazing fleet of perfect waves which he regularly surfed alone! This truly great surf story recently screened at the San Sebastian Surf Film Festival in Spain.
Other highlights of the festival include a special screening on Friday 3 January of Nathan Oldfield’s feature documentary The Heart of the Sea, a unique surf film that explores the joy that lies at the very heart of a surfing family: family, friends and a shared connection and relationship with the sea.
Featuring Dave Rastovich, Sage Joske, Belinda Baggs and many others, The Heart of the Sea recently won Best Feature Film at the San Diego Surf Film Festival.
Saturday 4 January will feature a special screening of the new Wayne Lynch surf film Uncharted Waters.
Directed by Craig Griffin, Uncharted Waters tells the story of Lorne’s surfing legend Wayne Lynch whose innovation as a surfer has inspired generations of surfers around the world.
Featuring amazing historical surf footage the film takes us on Wayne’s personal journey as he travels the world, dodges the draft and surfs isolated surf breaks on Victoria’s wild south-west coast.
The festival will also feature award winning short surf films, while the 20 20 Exhibition celebrating the museum’s 20th anniversary will remain on show.
The 2014 Surf World International Film Festival will be held at the Surf World Museum, Beach Road, Torquay. Doors Open at 7.30pm. All films start at 8.00pm. Festival passes and session tickets on sale at the Surfworld Museum, Surf City Plaza, Beach Road, Torquay.
Seating is limited so festival goers are advised to pre-purchase tickets or get to the museum early on the night.
A New Surf Film about the discovery of the Maldives – This is a film about Anthony Hussein Hinde; a guy on an adventure who became a legend. By the most serendipitous chain of events Tony found himself shipwrecked on a deserted island in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
